Uptown-born rapper Big Freedia celebrated the upcoming premiere of her new reality TV show, “Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce” Sunday evening, with an early screening and performance at Republic in the Warehouse District. The show airs for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10 p.m. Central time on the Fuse TV channel.
At Republic Sunday night, the cast of the show – including Katey Red, in a floor-length black-and-silver gown, rappers Sissy Nobby and 10th Ward Buck, actor and playwright Lucky Johnson, the veteran local hip-hop manager Melvin Foley, Freedia’s mother and longtime boyfriend, a clutch of dancers and more – including Freedia herself, in a red leather suit, walked the red carpet, hugging, cheering and taking photos. They had plenty to celebrate: a new EP, also called “Queen of Bounce,” comes out as well on Oct. 2, not to mention that on Sept. 25, the rapper, plus 358 volunteers, set the Guinness world record for mass twerking in New York’s Herald Square.
